Absolute Black Granite

A true, even black — no vein, no visible grain, no shift in tone along the slab. It is one of the few granites in the world that reads as genuinely full black, which is why it has stayed in use for decades without going out of fashion.

Two finishes are in stock, and they are two different worlds: the polished returns the room like a mirror and suits a dramatic kitchen, while the flamed-and-brushed gives a fully matte surface, faintly rough under the hand, that shows no fingerprints — the practical choice for a worktop in daily use. Note that on a polished black, dust and water spots do show; that is part of the deal.

Granite is a crystalline igneous rock — quartz, feldspar and mica cooled slowly at depth — and among the most durable things you can put in a working kitchen. Everyday use does not scratch it, kitchen acids do not touch it, and a hot pan will not scorch it. It is porous to a degree, so the slab is sealed before delivery; resealing every year or two is what keeps oil marks from settling around the hob.

Every slab is one single piece of rock, and no two slabs of the same stone are ever identical. So we drive out to the supplier's yard with you, choose the actual slab there, and mark the layout on it before it is cut.
