White Roche

A deep black cut by a broad white and grey network that rings dark clasts of varying size and produces a hard, graphic contrast. The look is close to stone that broke and was set again — which is, more or less, what happened in nature.

A stone at this contrast works when it is isolated: a hob wall, a feature panel, or a single island against entirely flat cabinetry. Across a whole kitchen it will tire. The polished finish sharpens the contrast further and brings out the depth of the black.

This stone arrives from the quarry as it is — every slab is one single piece of rock, and no two are ever identical. So we drive out to the supplier's yard with you, choose the actual slab there, and mark the layout on it before it is cut.

Natural stone is porous: the slab is sealed before delivery, and resealing every year or two keeps oil, wine and coffee from soaking in. Heat does not harm it the way it harms engineered quartz, whose resin scorches. How this particular stone behaves against kitchen acids is worth asking us before you order — not every natural stone behaves the same way, and it is a one-minute question on the phone.
