A Fireplace Made to Measure: How Marmo Antico Porcelain Granite Turned a TV Wall Into a Design Statement

A private client wanted a living-room wall that combined a television, a built-in electric fireplace, and a stone finish cut to the exact dimensions of the room. The Makor HaShayish team fabricated and installed a Marmo Antico porcelain granite cladding by Novo Corso, 12mm thick — and proved that the right material, installed by the right hands, changes everything.

From an Off-the-Shelf Unit to True Custom Made

Most clients who come to us picturing a TV wall and a fireplace cabinet are picturing something standard. This project was different from the ground up: the client wanted a single unit combining a large television, a recessed electric fireplace, and a continuous stone top — all built to the precise measurements of his own living room, with no compromise down to the millimetre. In the trade, that is what "custom made" actually means: a careful on-site survey, cabinetry designed around the fireplace insert, and only then, the fabrication of the stone panel itself.

The result you see in the photographs is exactly what was ordered: a single, continuous surface that opens precisely around the fireplace's viewing window and meets the TV wall in a clean line, with no accidental gaps. That is the work you can see. The work you cannot see happened hours earlier, on the fabrication table, in the precision of the cut itself.

Choosing the Material: Marmo Antico by Novo Corso

For this fireplace, the client chose Marmo Antico — a porcelain granite slab from the Italian brand Novo Corso, 12mm thick. It's an engineered ceramic panel that reproduces the look of natural marble with striking accuracy: a warm ivory ground veined in gold and grey that drifts across the surface the way water moves across ancient stone. But unlike natural marble, this is an engineered material — a dense porcelain fired at high temperatures, virtually non-absorbent, and resistant to scratching and heat, exactly the properties a surface needs when it sits a single metre above an active electric flame, day after day. Novo Corso rates the panel for both indoor and outdoor use, which makes it a flexible choice for this client's next project too, whether that turns out to be a façade or a terrace.

The Precision You See, and the Precision You Don't

An untrained eye sees a handsome stone panel. A trained one sees veining that runs uninterrupted from one edge of the surface to the other, an opening cut to the exact profile of the fireplace's light housing, and a frame that hides every cut. That is the job of Makor HaShayish's fabrication team: to take a large slab and cut from it exactly what the space calls for — not a millimetre more, not a millimetre less. A cladding like this forgives nothing: a small gap at the corner, a vein out of alignment, and you feel it the moment you stand in front of the wall. The photographs the client sent after installation show exactly the opposite: a clean, straight line framing the blue-and-amber flame, and a top surface that carries the panel's warm tone through without an unnecessary seam.

Where Stone, Fire and Technology Meet

The finished result is far more than a television cabinet. It's a corner that engages every sense: the warm, marble-like face of Marmo Antico, the soft light of the electric fireplace reflecting off the polished panel, and a black screen that disappears into the wall when it's off. This is exactly the kind of design our clients are asking for today — a living space that feels like a boutique hotel, built to the exact dimensions of their own home, on a surface that holds up night after night through a winter of lit fireplaces.

Why Clients Choose Makor HaShayish

This project is a small-scale summary of what sets Makor HaShayish apart. We don't sell a stone panel — we accompany a project from the first measurement to the evening the client lights the fireplace for the first time. That means guiding the right material choice from a wide range of porcelain granite and natural stone, fabrication tailored precisely to each space, and installation carried out by professionals who understand that a single millimetre can be the difference between a good result and an outstanding one. The client who chose us for this project asked for exactly that — and we're grateful for one more fireplace to be proud of.
